Porn Title of the Day:
I don't know about anyone else, but it startles me how blatantly un-humorous and downright awful most diary ad banners I've seen lately have been. So very, very bad. Here's some advice: BE SIMPLE (I made my banners with paintbrush). Be funny and/or wacky. Do not use phrases such as:
"I'm a goddess in disguise" (or anything involving the word goddess)
"Just wandering in this maze called life." (or anything trying to sound philosophical but missing the mark)
"Click me, you know you want to" (no we don't)
Also avoid anything with flowers, angels, cherubs, puppies/kittens(including Hello Kitty), lace borders, Times New Roman font, the address of your diary (unless it's something simple like "johnnyrotten" or "cactushead"...try to avoid "angelkitti789" or "crazygrrrl123"...people will assume you're 15 and only write about boys and being drunk), also try to avoid any references to your occupation if it's something dull, unless you can make it interesting...for instance, "I'm a Librarian with very loud flatulence issues"..or something like that. I don't know.
The best advice I can give, though, is to put something familiar in it....for instance, my two best-ranking banners both got over 5.5% clickthrough...one had a reference on it about Weezer and the other had a quote and picture of Ralph Wiggum. How do either of these things relate to my diary? They don't really, except that I obviously like The Simpsons and Weezer. The thing is, that so do a lot of people, so they click my banner and come to my diary! Some of them are disappointed, probably because I'm not quite as witty as Ralph Wiggum, but....they click nonetheless.
One more thing, and if you know me, you know that I can personally not stress this enough...if you're only going to have one sentence on your banner....for god's sake, make sure the spelling and grammar are right. Maybe everyone who looks at "Your going to love my diary!" won't see the error right away, but for some reason they think it just looks ghetto. And it does. Spelling, people. It's not that hard.
So...yeah. There's my big tutorial for the day. i didn't mean to sound like a pompous arse or assume that I know everything there is to know...like I said, I make my banners in paintbrush...but I know what's click-able and what definitely isn't...and which of my banners do well (the goofy ones). I don't know why I wrote so bloody much...it was just supposed to be a sentence or two to start off my entry.
Anyway...typical me to write about something pointless whe there's so much else going on in my life.....namely, I got my hair all cut off on wednesday....(picture Winona Ryder in "Reality Bites")...anyway, it's never been short before, but I super-love it. Also, I'm leaving for Alberta in roughly 9 short days. I can't believe that shit. I found out that we are going to have a phone jack in our room...so it's up to us whether we have phone/internet...either way, I'll keep everyone posted. :) Will, sorry I didn't catch you before you made the big move, but I wrote down your new address...hopefully I'll talk to you soon.
That's all for now, I guess.
